We want our children to Love God with all their hearts and love others as He would. But how do we teach them?
It’s so important that they understand the depth of God’s love for them to truly help set the gospel in their hearts.
It’s not too early to teach them of God’s agape love – here’s how!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
What is Love? A TWEEN BIBLE STUDY ON THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Q: Before we write our verse for this week, can you name one of the 9 fruits of the spirit listed in the verse?
Excellent!
Let’s pray together
(Mom’s feel free to pray with me or pray on your own)
Father, thank you for this day you have given us. Thank you that we can come to you and your word to learn more about growing like you! Help us to understand more clearly what love is from this study!
Amen.
Read the verse to them, then have them repeat the verse after you.
But the fruit of the Spirit //is love, joy, peace,// patience, kindness, goodness, //faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; //against such things// there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
Hand out the copywork – write the verse while answering these questions.
Q: Did anything stand out to you from last week? Did you learn anything new?
Great job!
Q: Do you remember how it is important to look at what the book is, who the author is and when it was written?
Q: Do you remember the book basics?
What book of the bible are the fruits found in? Galatians
What type of book is it? Galatians is an epistle (fancy for letter)
Who wrote it? Paul
When was it written? 49 AD
Alright, great work!
We are going to plug these into our study sheet at the end of the lesson.
‡ If you are breaking the Bible study down into a daily format here might be a good spot to break until the next day. ‡
Today we are looking more in depth at the word love.
Q: What comes to mind when you hear the word Love?
Q: Why don’t you go and find 3 examples of things that you “love” and bring them here. You can always just ask them three things if you don’t have the time or if you have a child who has a hard time focusing.
Q: When we use the word love, do we always mean the same thing? I love my Mom, I love my friend, I love pizza?
No. In just the same kind of way the word love in the bible can describe different types of love. This verse Love is referring to God’s Love. Agape love.
Q: Can you repeat the word Agape (ah-gop-ay)?
The bible says that God is love. In 1 John 4:8 it says – Anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love.
This kind of love is not a feeling/emotion or deserving kind of love. Agape Love is shown to us by what it does, it is an action.
In Romans 5:8 it states – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Not because we deserve to be loved or because we are awesome 🙂 but because it is Gods nature to love. He is Love – it is who He is and He doesn’t go against himself.
Q: List some ways we can show God’s Love to others.

This love we have been talking about is speaking of God’s Love for us – the ultimate picture of that is Christ dying on the cross for us – can you think of a verse that talks about that?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
It is also the love that we should reflect (it should become a fruit) in our lives. It is the kind of love that is a choice.
In Luke 10:27 it says
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
That unlovable person, that friend who said something mean, that sibling who broke your stuff. We have to decide.
Q: Are you going to show God’s Agape Love to them or love them only if you feel like it or if they deserve it?
If Agape Love is the way God loves us, and He wants us to grow in Him and have the “fruit” of His love in our lives, then we need to pray and ask for His help for us to love others – even when it’s hard!
- On your Love Scripture Printable sheet read the 3 related verses we looked at -they are John 4:8, Romans 5:8, Luke 10:27
Q: From those 3 verses which verse stands out to you the most?
