Listen Now!

Marisa Boonstra of Called to Mothering is a homeschooling mama of two kids, Colton (8) and Rory (5), wife to Gregg since 2003, and follower of Jesus. A Jersey girl (raised and grown in the Garden State), she has been transplanted with her family down south to Oklahoma because her hubby was hired as Putnam City Baptist’s Media Director. Her book, Bucking The System: Reclaiming Our Children’s Minds For Christ was released in January 2016 on Amazon in both Kindle and Softcover formats. When she’s not writing her next blog post, she’s teaching the littles, moving laundry around, trying to throw together a nutritious meal, and praying for sanity as she juggles each of these responsibilities!

Key Points

  • As Moms, we are called to this role of Motherhood. We are called to lead our kids to Jesus and we are called to help them navigate this culture that we live in.
  • “God has drawn me more to Himself than if I didn’t have those trials. He taught me to depend on Him, to trust Him and that HE is enough.”
  • Journaling through the postpartum depression is how God started to move her in His direction to begin to equip other Moms in Biblical Motherhood!
  • God will “make up the difference” in our parenting and in teaching our children His word!
  • “If God can use me, He can use anyone!” (Yes, I feel the same!!)
  • Her take on her homeschool experience: I didn’t always want to homeschool my children. In fact, it was never even on my radar until halfway through my son’s second year of Pre-K.  I never considered that I might “have what it takes” to actually be able to do the same. I believed extreme patience and being born with an artsy fartsy gene were requirements for educating my own children. Turns out I was wrong! Being their mother who knows them better than anyone else and wants the best for them was and is the only prerequisite.

God meets us in the darkness where He brings us to a deeper faith and greater hope in Him!
