This post is part of the 7 Day Intentional Parenting Challenge on The Character Corner!
Someone once told me “anything that brings us to our knees in prayer is a good thing. It brings us back to dependence on God”. As I’ve wrestled with that on and off over the years, one thing has remained consistent – my 5 children bring me to my knees in prayer more often than not!
I, like you, desire to be intentional in parenting our children. But in the day to day battles of strong wills, sibling squabbles, character building, teaching, parenting the heart and homemaking we can easily lose sight of the biggest battle we need to fight. A battle that is for, not against our kids.
Without a doubt, intentionally battling for your kids in prayer is one of the most powerful things you can do as a parent.
But why? Why does intentional prayer matter?
Mom, we need to recognize that we have an enemy. One whose desire is to destroy our families and our children. If we don’t recognize our need to battle the enemy, we won’t recognize the importance of intentional prayer.
God’s word warns us of this truth about our adversary:
1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
But here is the good news.
God has equipped you to be a prayer warrior Mama! Yes even when you feel like you can’t! He will give you the strength and power you need, through Him, to Intentionally Battle for Your Kids in Prayer!
Time and again He encourages us through scripture to fight the battle. We are to put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11) and remember that though the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy, He came that we may have life and have it abundantly in John 10:10.
We have been given an amazing gift to be able to approach the throne of God with petitions for our children. He hears our prayers. Prayer is our direct line to our heavenly father who created our children, the one who knows them better than we do!
